Aloha! Chiung Hwang Chen here.

I am a professor at BYU Hawaii. I joined the Church at age 16, earned a journalism degree in Taiwan, served a mission there, came to BYUH for the second college degree in political science, then studied at University of Iowa for Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in journalism and mass communication, went back to Taiwan to teach for a year and then came to BYUH in 2001 and have been here ever since. My main research interests include gender, race, religion, political issues in media/cultural studies.

I have two daughters: one is a junior at the University of Pittsburgh and another one in high school. My husband, Ethan Yorgason, is a cultural geographer and also keen on Mormon studies. He is teaching at the National Kyungpook in South Korea.
